The Regional Park of Gallipoli Cognato of the Small Dolomites protects a vast area located in the heart of the Lucania region, and has important natural, historical and ethno-anthropological values: the forest of Gallipoli Cognato extended to over 4,200 hectares to Montepiano forest consists of impressive specimens of oak, Mediterranean undergrowth with residual nuclus of oak, in addition to imposing sandstone cliffs that form the outlines of the bizarre Dolomites Lucane of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa.
For lovers of walking, trekking, mountain biking and all those who love nature, the park offers the opportunity to learn about the natural features that characterize this beautiful area, with a system of guided tours and excursions. And if you cannot keep your feet on the ground, the exciting new attraction of the park is the famous "Flight of the Angel." Above the Dolomites of Lucania, a steel cable suspended between the peaks of the two villages, Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa, will allow you to live the incredible experience of flying!
Safely tied with a harness and fixed to a steel cable you will live for minutes, the thrill of flying, gliding in a fantastic adventure. Unique in Italy but also over the world for the beauty of the landscape and the maximum height of overflight.
Arrived to one of the two beautiful villages at the end of the "flight", you will grab the opportunity to wonder around the pictoresque village set in the rock formations, take fascinating nature excursions and historical tours as well as enjoy the many local products.
For lovers of eco-tourism by the sea, a few minutes drive away, it will be a pleasure to visit WWF Policoro Area where the forest and the river will be the natural environments where to practise sailing, canoeing, archery and mountain biking. You may also assist the vets at the veterinary center and help sea turtles and observe the life of the beautiful pink herons.
